Name: Klaus Hargreeves
Canon: The Umbrella Academy [Netflix]
Age: 34
Appearance: Klaus is 6' with messy dark hair, and haunted eyes that are generally enhanced by all the eyeliner he wears; he's lanky and practically skin-and-bones skinny from too many missed meals and too much drug use, and basically his style is "disaster chic".
Canon Point: Mid-jump, end of s2, before they end up back in 2019

CRAU: Penance (Aug 2020-Feb 2021) + The Village (Nov 2020-September 2021)
• Connections Klaus made sustained him here.
- ↪ He maintained better relationships with Five and Vanya here than he'd managed back home for years. They had their bright spots and their low ones, but over all the siblings were closer than ever.
- ↪ Harlan Halliday was the best friend he never knew he needed; they had their ups and downs, and the last thing he remembers is a fight that left them on rocky/uneven footing– there was hope for it to be repaired into something better, but Klaus was gone before it could happen.
- ↪ Faith Lehane was his short-lived girlfriend who he grew incredibly close to insanely fast because of the events that surrounded them.
• During his stay in Hell, he ended up both marked and controlled by The Veiled Order on various occasions. There was plenty of new trauma to be had when he was forced to torture his brother and lose every inch of progress he'd made in his relationship with Vanya thanks to her disappearing and coming back with absolutely no memory of her family or her life at home or in hell either one.
• Overall, Klaus had quite a time here, gained new friends and new traumas alike. He never worked off any of his initial sins on his list, and had a few more added to it during the course of his stay.• The near-constant level of duress that the residents of Mathias Township were under has done a number on Klaus' psyche. As a result of that, he has been granted a few extra instabilities in his mental health.
- ↪ Paranoid hyperfixation: Might see patterns where there are none and/or become solely focused on some conspiracy or other.
- ↪ Intermittent disassociation: Might check out of things completely in the middle of a conversation; it usually doesn't last more than a couple of minutes, but it's obvious every time.
- ↪ Scotophobia: Intense fear of darkness/night; long stretches of being anywhere very dark will likely induce panic attacks.
- ↪ Agromania: Intense desire to be in open spaces; almost an escalation of the claustrophobia he already suffers from.
- ↪ The Men of 1306 Philips Drive were the absolute core of his whole stay in the creepy little town. Without them, he probably would not have made it as long as he did. Raylan Givens was equal parts close friend and flirty banter guy. They had several deep conversations about abuses from their fathers and he was the first person that Klaus opened up to about Dave; Malcolm Bright was his best friend, he talked to him about everything, they bonded over dad-related traumas and a desperate need to be loved. Klaus ended up with a crush on Malcolm that never went anywhere, because he was taken by Raylan; Doc Holliday was the town's Dad who always checked on everyone in the event of the town's mayhem. Klaus appreciated the steady calm of him among the chaos; Neal Caffrey was one of the newest in the house and though they didn't know each other as well as Klaus would have liked, he considered Neal a good friend all the same.
- ↪ Negan was also part of the 1306 crew, but in a different vein of attachment on Klaus' end; it started as a fun roll in the sheets and ended up something a bit deeper. He never got to a point of L-words, but he did care a lot for the zombie-apocalypse survivor.
- ↪ Max Guevara was something of a surrogate sister for him, who lived in the boarding house along with him and Five. She became a close confidant for him very quickly, for the things they suffered through together in the town.
Personality: Klaus is a complex case when it comes to describing how he acts and who he is as a person. First and foremost, because a large part of who he is, is actually a lie and little more than a well-worn mask that he prefers to the reality of the broken mess that he keeps hidden behind it.
On the surface, Klaus is a carefree, worry-free party boy with not a single care at all. This, along with his wild antics and gender-bending/androgynous wardrobe, is a persona that he gives out to the world, free of charge. It's the most magnetic part of him that makes people like--or at least want to like him.
However, hidden underneath the layers of booze, drugs, and that carefully-placed mask are the broken pieces of a man ravaged by his father's abuse.
Sensitive and compassionate, Klaus is not one to hide from his feelings or those of others. He will openly express fear or panic, or cry in front of other people without seeming to think or feel like it's not something he should do or share with people. He is also incredibly tactile and seeks to both give and receive comfort through touch-- a hand on an arm or shoulder or a simple hug.
Klaus is a bit of a fatalistic pessimist, always assuming the worst of people and situations-- because cynicism lessens his chances of being disappointed and if it turns out he's wrong, it's almost like a pleasant surprise. As much as he wants to believe people, particularly ones that press any kind of interest or care in his direction, he tends to disbelieve it or assume it's somehow manipulative in nature by default.
He holds a very low threshold for criticisms due to having so many--pathetic; weak; disappointment; junkie, the list goes on and on--thrown at him through the years and may react disproportionately to negative commentary. He also has a low tolerance for stressful situations, running from them as quickly and effectively as possible, usually in the form of pills or alcohol and preferably before a paralyzing bout of panic sets in.
Though it is hard to get through the number of walls Klaus has effectively built around himself through the last roughly two decades, once someone sticks around long enough to manage it, they will find a caring and loyal, if not ambitious or always dependable, person who will flay himself open for those he cares about when it matters most.
